Air Filter Installation And Use

1. During installation, the connection between the air filter and the engine intake manifold, whether using a flange, rubber hose, or direct connection, must be tight and reliable to prevent air leakage. Rubber gaskets must be installed on both ends of the filter element. The wing nuts securing the air filter cover should not be overtightened to avoid damaging the paper filter element.

2. During maintenance, the paper filter element must never be cleaned in oil, otherwise it will fail and may easily cause a runaway engine accident. During maintenance, only use vibration, soft brushing (brushing along the folds), or compressed air backflushing to remove dust and dirt adhering to the surface of the paper filter element. For the coarse filter section, dust should be cleaned promptly from the dust collection area, blades, and cyclone pipe. Even with careful maintenance each time, the paper filter element cannot fully recover its original performance, and its intake resistance will increase. Therefore, generally, the paper filter element should be replaced when it requires its fourth maintenance. If the paper filter element is cracked, perforated, or the filter paper is detached from the end cap, it should be replaced immediately.

3. When using a paper-core air filter, it is crucial to prevent it from getting wet from rain. Once the paper core absorbs a large amount of moisture, it will significantly increase intake resistance and shorten its lifespan. Furthermore, the paper-core air filter must not come into contact with oil or fire.

4. Some vehicle engines are equipped with cyclone-type air filters. The plastic cover at the end of the paper filter element is a deflector. The blades on the cover cause the air to rotate, and 80% of the dust is separated by centrifugal force and collected in the dust collection cup. Only about 20% of the dust inhaled reaches the paper filter element, resulting in an overall filtration efficiency of approximately 99.7%. Therefore, when maintaining a cyclone-type air filter, ensure that the plastic deflector on the filter element is not missing.
